HMRC are currently reviewing 2021/2022 tax returns to see if taxpayers have paid the charge if necessary. They compare the tax returns to Child Benefit records they hold.
They will be writing to taxpayers who have not declared and paid the charge.
If you or your partner claimed child benefit in 2021/22, check if your self-assessment return declared the HICBC if necessary. If you need to correct your return, do it by no later than 31 January 2024 to avoid an HMRC penalty.
